Congrats on your single “72’s,” and the debut of the video! How does this song reflect where you are in your life? Thank you! This song is about so many things, but for me it was about being bold and telling your partner what you want out of the relationship. That's really where I am in so many aspects of my life right now. I'm enjoying being my bold self. It has taken me a long time to realize there is no shame in expressing your wants/needs.
What was it liking filming the video for “72’s?” Where you nervous at all working with Cory Brandon Clay? It was seriously a dream come true. I was a little nervous when it came to the acting parts, but Cory was super encouraging and pulled the best out of me. He is such a pro!
You are originally from Virginia, but have been in Nashville years. How has Nashville influenced your music? Have you seen a change since being here. Nashville has completely birthed and shaped my music. When I moved here, I knew I wanted to sing and perform, but I had no idea what I wanted to sound like or how to put everything I had to say into music. As soon as I started writing, I fell in love with it and completely immersed myself in learning about it. It was like my whole life of journaling and singing came together in the best way possible and I still love the writing process so much.
Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?
Yeah! Collecting fan stories has been my favorite part of this journey. It makes all the ups and downs of dream-chasing totally worth it. The outpouring of people that listened to my song "Daddy's Medicine" and shared their own family stories and struggles with me was so beautiful. I love how they were able to use my song as medicine for their hearts, and how it brought healing to them and their families. When I released it, I had no idea the power it would have. It was truly amazing.
What are some of your favorite Nashville restaurants? Definitely Monell's for my favorite Southern Food. Also, City House is a Nashville must. Two Ten Jack is incredible too, if you want something different, but incredible!
In the South we love our potlucks, what’s your go to dish to bring? Either my mom's pasta salad recipe or mac and cheese.
How about best Southern expression? I don't know if it’s a true Southern expression, but my Gruhmumma (what we call our Grandmother") always said ‘Baby, If you don't like yourself, no one else will,’ and that has always stuck with me over the years. She also used to say ‘okay Grace’ every time I'd trip or have a clumsy moment, and even though she’s passed on, I still hear her in my head saying that throughout my clumsy life now haha.
What is your favorite cuisine to cook? Probably Italian, but I also love taking southern food recipes and making them healthy.
Of course we love your style, any favorite Nashville shops? Thank you! Yes! I am an avid bargain hunter, so I love finding Gems at any of the Goodwill stores around town, but also at places like UAL, or Blush. For other stores you can find in Nashville. Other places around the country - Nordstrom Rack, Gabes, and TJ Maxx are also my go-to's.
Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion? I am so glad that ‘90s fashion is back now. I love all the colors and patterns, and all the jean styles that are back in!
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people take away from your songs? I hope that people will be able to hear my music and be able to find a friend in it. Whether It’s a song they can let go of their day listening to, or a song they need to lean on to cry it out, I hope that I can continue to put out music that makes people say "me too."
