"Foodie Friday" Featuring James Dupré

Thank you for chatting with us today James! So what is your favorite dish to cook? Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. I can cook several different Cajun dishes, but the gumbo is my favorite.

How do you drink your coffee? I like it slightly sweet with cream or half and half. Coffeemate’s Natural Bliss Sweet Creme is legit.

Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown? There aren’t many options but there’s a little place called Tom’s Fried Chicken that’s been there since before I was born. Incredible chicken and burgers.

What's your favorite fast food chain? Popeyes Fried Chicken. I actually used to work at Popeyes when I was in my early 20’s and I never grew tired of the food. Growing up in Louisiana, there’s one in almost every town, but not so much in Tennessee.

Favorite Nashville restaurant? Kayne Prime has the best steak, wine, hospitality, and overall atmosphere. I’d rate it a 10!

What was the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given about pursuing a career in music?Never stop. The ones who make a lasting impression in music are the ones who persevere despite the many ups and downs of the music business and the temptations to give up.

Where do you draw inspiration from when writing? It depends on the subject and what’s around me. I try to put myself in the situation surrounding the idea and just be as honest as possible.

What has changed in your life between recording your last album and your forthcoming album? My last album came out in 2016, and since then I feel I’ve grown as a songwriter. This will be my first album full of originals (maybe a good cover as well), and I can’t wait to throw it out into the world and let it live. I’ve also since gotten married and have a new baby girl at home!

Tell us about your new single, “You're Probably Drunk Right Now." This song has been around for a while now, I wrote it in 2011 I believe. It was written with Kyle Jacobs, John Ozier, and Ryan Tyndell. It’s about two lovers on the opposite sides of a breakup, going through the exact same thing. We loved the song immediately, but unfortunately it has taken this long for the right time to release it. It’s one of my favorites.

What can we expect from your upcoming music? I mentioned earlier that this album will be all originals. A lot of what I write about is love or lost love, and the possible drinking songs that go along with both. I write about Louisiana, and how I get homesick quite often. To me, honesty is the key.

Finally if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? Jim Beam. My favorite kind of whiskey is bourbon and I love a lot of bourbons, but I always go back to Jim Beam. I started drinking it years back because it was on the cheaper shelf and was all I could afford. It’s great on the rocks or neat, and it’s never let me down.

James Dupré, named one of “10 Country Artists You Need to Know,” by Rolling Stone Magazine, possesses an exceptionally stellar, pitch-perfect, baritone voice and has spent a great deal of time sharing that voice with his fans on social media platforms like YouTube, where today he is edging toward 11 million views. The former EMT-Paramedic is a Bayou Chicot, Louisiana native who currently lives in Nashville. James was handpicked by Randy and Mary Travis as a guest vocalist on The Music of Randy Travis 2019 fall tour. James performed 16 #1 Randy Travis hits with Travis’s original touring band, and Randy Travis appearing at each event. Stops include the legendary Mother Church of Country Music, The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN, among others. James’ most recent single, “Hurt Good” was produced by Jordan Lehning (Kasey Musgraves, Rodney Crowell) and Kyle Lehning (Dan Seals, George Jones, Randy Travis), and reached #24 on the Music Row Country Breakout Chart and #49 on the Billboard Indicator Chart. One might think that it all started when millions of viewers saw James get the highly coveted 4-chair turn, earning a spot with Adam Levine’s team on NBC’s The Voice, but this was not his first taste of fame. BeforeThe Voice, James’ high visibility on YouTube captured the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, landing him a guest appearance on The Ellen Show. This national exposure was followed by the release of his album, Stoned to Death, produced by Jordan Lehning (Kacey Musgraves, Rodney Crowell). The album rendered the successful Billboard Indicator charting single by the same name, as well as over a million streams to date. James co-wrote the majority of the tracks on the album. James’ new single, “Another Love Song,” was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer, Matt McClure (Lee Brice). Fans can look forward to a new project with additional new material in 2020.
