Grace said "As with many of my songs, “Why’d You Give Up” is based on a book I read about a tumultuous relationship between two people. Even though they are crazy about each other they cannot communicate so it turns into an on and off relationship. I think every girl can relate to the line, “I’m just another girl walking through these doors and I know I don’t exist to you anymore”. One of the worst feelings is when someone you love, know and have made memories with, pretends like you don’t exist. As time went on the man who broke her heart “got bored of his high horse so he came running back and showed up at her door”. He tries to get her back but she is only left with the question of 'Why’d You Give Up?'"

“Why’d You Give Up” highlights Grace’s ability to blend country roots with a modern edge, speaking to the ache of unanswered love. The track resonates with anyone who has been left wondering why a relationship slipped away. As she continues to carve out her own path, Grace delivers more than just another breakup song, but an intimate conversation set to music.

ABOUT GRACE HUMPHRIES

At just 18, The Austin, TX Hill Country-based Grace Humphries is already effortlessly writing shockingly well crafted songs that artists twice her age would envy.

It started early, with baby Grace humming in her crib as an infant and piano lessons followed at age 5, though the young musician is mostly self-taught. Her mother, a Texas native, and Liverpool, UK expat father were astounded with their daughter’s early-emerging talents and encouraged her creativity at every turn. Grace and her older brother Liam bonded through music in Ramona, California, where they were raised until Liam's devastating brain cancer diagnosis. When Grace was 8 and Liam was just 10, the family lost Liam and relocated to the Texas Hill Country. In the years that followed, Grace began channeling her feelings into music and soon knew exactly what she wanted to do in life.

Grace is constantly creating music, in and out of the studio. She hears the melodies in her head at school and at home, where she gets her ideas down via her small home recording studio. In 2024 Grace shot through the ranks at the annual All-State choir competition TPSMEA (Texas Private School Music Educators Association) as First Soprano. She won TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) in 2020 with her rendition of “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera, and also won in 2022 as a soloist with her original composition, “I Am Found”. She cut her teeth performing up to hour-long sets at Chamber of Commerce events, local farmers markets as well as wineries and steakhouses.

In March of 2024, Grace had the amazing opportunity to travel to England and spend a week recording at the famous Abbey Road Studios. She also embarked on her first mini radio promotion that took her to Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as Atlanta, Georgia where she had the opportunity to be a guest on WSM 650 Coffee, Country and Cody, WDVX The Blue Plate Special and WRFG The Americana Garage with Steve Kilbride.  Her most recent radio promotion took her to Sonoma County in Northern California where she was Doug Jayne's guest on KRCB 104.9 Sonoma County's NPR Station for an on-air interview and live performance. She followed the on air with a live performance at the Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol, CA to help raise funds for KRCB.

Grace is an active member of her church’s Worship Team, where she regularly leads music for both adult and youth ministries. A recent high school graduate with High Honors and a concentration in Classical Christian Education, Grace is now setting her sights on higher education. She plans to apply to colleges that offer specialized programs in commercial singing and songwriting, with the goal of further developing her musical gifts and pursuing her passion.

Driven by the natural determination and focus of a true born artist as well as from the sense of loss she has experienced in her few short years, Grace creates music to express the joy, fragility and beauty of life as well as uses that music to connect to others.  And even at the age of 18, she knows exactly what she wants. “I just want to be happy doing what I love: storytelling and performing,” she explains, “Writing music that is meaningful and connects with people in a very real way.”
