Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury Kicks Off Virtual Event Activities Today for Hammers & High Heels
Annual Fundraiser Launches Online Auction, Wine Pull and Social Photo Contest Before Virtual Songwriters Event on May 20th
Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) has launched their annual fundraiser today with online activities to include an Online Auction, a Wine Pull sponsored by Arrington Vineyards and a Social Media Photo Contest showing off their favorite high heel or hammer. The winners will be announced during their virtual event broadcast on Thursday, May 20th as the organization hosts a special program and songwriters’ night, “A Night of Songs & Stories” to benefit their Annual Women Build. The incredible lineup of performers for their 2021 Hammers & High Heels Event includes songwriters Brennen Leigh, Noel McKay and Tammy Rogers King of the SteelDrivers. The virtual broadcast event will take place online on May 20th from 7:00PM -8:00PM CDT and will once again be emceed by Dawn Davenport, Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster and co-host of the 3HL radio show on 104.5 The Zone. Patrons have become accustomed to enjoying Gray’s on Main signature cocktails as they enter the event space each year. To keep as close to tradition as possible, HFHWM will host a Facebook LIVE event on May 18th at 4:00pm from Gray’s on Main to teach virtual attendees how to make their own signature cocktails at home – the “Hammer” and the “High Heel.” This year’s future homeowner is single mother Searria Peoples and her four children. Searria has put in 200 hours of sweat equity on her home and the homes of others this spring; attended budget-coaching sessions, homeownership classes, and will save $3,000 in closing costs to be eligible to purchase her house with an affordable mortgage. Hammers & High Heels Virtual Fundraiser - “A Night of Songs & Stories” will benefit the Peoples family and this worthwhile cause. Silent auction registration is FREE, and bidding is open to the public. Virtual broadcast tickets are available for purchase for $20 and include access to the songwriters’ broadcast and full program. Additional add-ons, including dinner from Amerigo Italian Restaurant can also be purchased. All event information and tickets can be found at www.WomenBuildTN.com. About Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) was fully incorporated as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International on December 5, 1992. We have built 253 homes in Williamson and Maury Counties and continue to build 12-14 new homes per year. Home construction, critical repair, and neighborhood development services are funded through tax-deductible financial contributions; in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals; and profits generated from our affiliate's ReStore.
Homes built by Habitat are not given away, and partner families must complete a homebuyer's education program and earn at least 200 hours of "sweat equity" by working on their home and the homes of others. After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for affordable housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. Completed homes are SOLD with an affordable mortgage to the families, helping build strength, stability, and independence to build a better life.
