Interview: Kasey Burton Releases New Single, "Let Me Be Yours" TODAY!

Thank you for talking with us and congratulations on your new single! What was the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given about pursuing a career in music? I went to a rock in roll camp when I was 13 and one of the mentors there quoted Popeye saying “I yam what I yam”. She quoted this while stressing how important it was to not hold back when performing on stage because no matter what not everyone in the audience is going to like you. Ever since then I’ve always had the most fun on stage!

Where did you grow up and how has that influenced your style of music? I grew up in a small town in Indiana and it’s influence not only comes out in my style of music, but also in my writing! Living in a county where 2 out of the 3 high schools were across from cornfields, it’s no surprise that country music was popular among my community.

For newer fans, how did your passion for music and career come about? As funny as it sounds I think the show Hannah Montana had a lot to do with it! I always loved singing and I always loved music, but I don’t know if I ever would have started performing or writing songs as young as I did if I hadn’t been exposed to it through the show!

Where do you draw inspiration from when writing? Most of my writing I like to draw from personal experiences, but occasionally I like to try and stretch my writing skills with fun little exercises or writing from someone else’s experience.

At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people take away from your songs? I hope the message of my music is always positive! The crazy truth is, life can be so hard and if there’s one thing I hope my music does for people, I hope it makes life a little easier. I hope people find healing, joy, and fun in my music!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? Eggs. There’s so many different ways to cook them!

Home cooking or going out for dinner: Home cooked food for sure!

Where do you shop and name three items that are always in your grocery cart? I shop mostly anywhere, but I’m most familiar with Kroger. Items you can typically find in my grocery cart include Vans Perfect Ten crackers, dark chocolate or anything chocolate, and P3’s.

How do you drink your coffee: My favorite coffee drink is an iced honey lavender latte made with almond milk.

Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? Chick-fil-A! Not only do I love their food, but I also love all that they stand for. Give me some chicken and Jesus and I’m good to go!
