Interview with Breakout Pop-Country Duo, SixForty1

You have a new track coming out on July 3 called "Forget Those Heels." That's exciting! Tell us a little about it. "Forget Those Heels" is all about letting your girl know she’s beautiful no matter what. You don’t have to dress up or have a night out on the town to impress us. That was our thought process the day we wrote it last year.

When can your fans expect a full album or EP? We are working on an EP right now. Our fans our seeing it come together one single at a time.

Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? Not anyone specifically. Our families have been supportive of us since day one. But other than that, it sort of happened organically whenever we met at Murray State University and found out each other wrote songs. We started out just writing together in our apartments in college and playing open mic nights around town. It wasn't until we started to see more and more people come out to see us senior year that we decided we could really see being artists as well.

Streaming music is a huge part of the business now, you have some pretty nice numbers from Spotify. How do you think streaming music has changed the landscape of the business? Streaming has been a huge boost for independent artists like us. Playlists have allowed us to connect with fans all around the world.

You have been on the road with Brantley Gilbert, Michael Ray, Walker Hayes, Muscadine Bloodline, and more. Who do you think has the wildest fans? Brantley definitely has some of the most dedicated fans in country music… hands down. They’ve shown us a lot of love from our time playing with BG. Some of our wildest nights have been at those shows.

If you could only perform one of your songs for someone who has never heard of you, what song would that be? Probably "Show You Around" because it showcases our songwriting ability as well as our melodic style.

What excites you most about the Nashville music scene right now? Anything is possible if you keep your head down and work. Especially for independent artists like ourselves. We also love what's happening with the country/pop collabs. We’d love to do that one day.

Can you remember your first trip to Nashville? Oh yeah.... we think. Haha definitely did a lot of bar hopping. Nothing like that first time.

What do you do on a day off in Nashville, no work allowed? Austin: I love seeing new parts of the city. On off days I like to drive to places I wouldn't normally go and just sightsee. There’s a lot of cool little sub-parts of Nashville that you have to see for yourself.

Brooks: Any chance to hit the golf course... I’m there.

Any favorite places to eat along namesake, highway 641? Shogun. Hands down.

You have toured a lot, what southern food can people just not get right unless it’s in the South or they’re from the South? FRIED CHICKEN… we know it looks easy, but unless you're from the South you don’t have that secret touch.

Any last words for our readers and your fans? How do they connect with you? We just want to thank y'all for all the support! We've been working hard in the studio and we think we have some pretty cool stuff in the works. Check us out on Instagram, Facebook and on all streaming outlets @sixforty1.
