The CHARM Foundation held their annual Back To School Bash on Sunday, August 4th at the Kirkpatrick Center in East Nashville. Each year, the CHARM “Back To School Bash” helps children to prepare for the school year by providing them free resources like backpacks, hygiene kits, health screenings, school supplies, dental screenings, haircuts, and more.

The CHARM Foundation is founded by Jaclyn Stapp, philanthropist, award-winning children's author, mother, and wife of Grammy award winning singer Scott Stapp of Creed.  Growing up with humble beginnings, Jaclyn started CHARM at 17 years old as a way to give back to the community.

CHARM has been around for a while, What was the thought behind creating the Back to School Bash event?

Jaclyn Stapp- CHARM foundation was inspired by my mother who raised five kids by herself. We grew up in very humble beginnings and so she instilled in us the importance of education. She always made sure we had what we needed for the first day of school. So here I am fifteen years later. We want to make sure kids have confidence on their first day of school and they go to school prepared. Because when you go to school prepared, whether it be with a fresh haircut or new shoes, you feel good about yourself  So we wanted to help these children and families out that are right in our backyard.

Where do you see the future of CHARM?

Jaclyn Stapp- Our committee is growing, we have Scott and Chris on board and we have fantastic sponsors. As soon as this event ends, we are starting on next year working year around. Our goal is to help all the children in Middle Tennessee and this event make its way to the Bridgestone arena! We work all year around on fundraising and sponsorships, collection of school supplies and clothing, and meet each month to plan.

Scott Stapp- It is important to know to that the foundation does along with it’s fundraising, other important things behind the scenes too. There is a lot of need that arises and one of the things that I love about Jaclyn is that when something touches her heart, she feels compelled and steps in to make a difference. So the foundation is always doing something to help children and families.

Does CHARM continue taking supplies throughout the year? What can others do to help?

Jaclyn Stapp- People can go to the CHARM website and there they can volunteer, become a sponsor, a corporate sponsor, or just donate school supplies.

Are there any other charities you are a part of?

Scott Stapp- The CHARM Foundation partners with my foundation, the With Arms Wide Open foundation and Chris has a foundation as well, The Chris Kirkpatrick Foundation. If you go on the CHARM website there you can see all the different charities and organizations that we partner with.

Having children of your own now, did it make this charity even more meaningful for you?

Chris Kirkpatrick- Kids make everything more important. It changes everything. And being a part of CHARM you really get that appreciation. You see the families coming through that need things. I grew up really poor like some of them. The coolest thing about this kind is when the kids come through the door they are not getting a bag of can goods from the church that nobody wanted. They are getting brand new backpacks, haircuts, brand new everything. It is a really big deal and it really makes a difference.

Finally, Were you good students?

Chris Kirkpatrick- Nope Jaclyn Stapp- I was Scott Stapp- I actually was too

CHARM strongly believes that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed and prepare for their future. More than 16 million kids in the U.S live in extreme poverty and arrive on that first day of school without the supplies they need to learn. CHARM foundation partners with select organizations, churches and corporations to deliver supplies and resources at the CHARM annual drive. Presented by Holborn with additional sponsors: The Noelle, Prime Healthcare,  Nesheiwat Law Group, Firehouse Subs, Enlighten Philanthrophy, Ren Dermatology, Greko Greek Street Food, Wood Financial & more.
