NashvilleVoyager Magazine Interview

Hi Mary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories. My name is Mary Ann Kaylor-Griffiths. I am a Selma, AL native, CEO of the business, Kaylor Girl Promotions, headquartered in Nashville, TN, entrepreneur, author, and fourteen-year music industry veteran. Kaylor Girl Promotions started out with just my two sisters and me with a passion for live music.

We started attending shows every week checking out the trendiest spots and the newest bands in and around Auburn, AL while in college. As friends joined us the group grew larger and soon acquired the nickname The Kaylor Girls. As regulars on the music scene in Auburn, Alabama, we built connections in the local music industry and began to get hired to help rev up crowds during shows, sell merch and do marketing. I started to build relationships with bar owners, radio station owners, bands, and loyal fans. I then decided to make the move to Nashville, TN in 2010.

I began attending Middle Tennessee State University studying in the area of Music Business with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I landed an internship at Average Joes Entertainment and was eventually hired on as a Publicist after graduation. I then began writing for food and music blogs and the journalist passion in me took flight.

I am still the CEO of Kaylor Girl Promotions doing publicity. I am a freelance writer as well as run my own blogs featured on www.kaylorgirls.com, Grubs and Grooves, and Nashville Socialite. I just published my first book, “I’m Not Drunk, I’m Cooking.” Finally, I am just a few classes away from my Master’s Degree at MTSU.
