Thirsty Thursday Featuring Luke & Kaylee

Thank you for chatting with us! For newer fans, how did your passion for music and career come about?

Luke - I sang in musicals when I was younger and also played the saxophone in the marching band throughout High School. Music was always a huge part of my life. My parents played music in our home & took us to see shows. I picked up the guitar senior year of High School & started writing songs with my brother. We formed a country band after I graduated & I just became really in love with writing and creating music. I moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University and that’s where I met Kaylee. We started writing and singing together and here we are now!

Kaylee - My dad is a professional drummer and I grew up singing and performing with him. He exposed my brother and I to a lot of different styles of music at a young age. I sang in the church choir and started taking singing lessons in High School. After I graduated, I realized that music was my true passion and what I wanted to pursue. I moved to Nashville to go to Belmont. I met Luke within the first week! We started singing and writing some songs together. We had chemistry, a lot of chemistry!

What was the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given about pursuing a career in music?

Luke - Don’t give yourself an “out.” If you want to make it in music, you have to make yourself. You have to fully believe there is no other way. This is what I want.

Kaylee - You may hear a lot of “no’s” but keep pushing, no matter how hard the road gets. Your path is all part of the journey. Grit and determination make you who you are.

How was it filming the video for “Backroad Flyin’?”

Luke - Amazing! On the beach on the most perfect day. Our friend let us borrow his old, classic Buick. I think it’s the best music video we’ve ever done.

Kaylee - Oh my gosh…best day ever. Our friend from Florida, who we met playing a live show down there a few years ago, let us borrow his car. We had a videographer friend from Nashville drive down to meet us in Pensacola, FL. Took about a day to film the video. So incredibly happy with how it turned out!

Where did you grow up and how has that influenced your style of music?

Luke - John Denver. My mom is his biggest fan I think! She loved to put that on for us. Country music is where my heart lies but I also love a lot of hip hop & pop. I write what makes me feel good. I like to mix genres. I think Kaylee and I fit stylistically because we love all genres of music and love to blend them while writing.

Kaylee - A lot of Shania Twain & Coldplay. My dad is a musician and my parents in general are huge music fans. Music was always on in my house. I remember being young and dancing in our living room every night before bed with my mom, dad, and brother. Some of my best memories. I am a huge country fan and love to write country music. But with that being said, I feel that I am influenced by many genres and love to incorporate that into my music and performance.

At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people take away from your songs?

Luke - I want people who listen to my music to feel good. I want to spread love and positivity and have others connect while listening to my music or seeing a live show. I write about real-life situations, whether I’ve personally experienced them or not…we’re all human and we can relate.

Kaylee - I want people to “feel” while listening to my music. Whether that be love, happiness, sadness, thankfulness, optimism, etc…. I think the purpose of music is for us to feel the human experience and our emotions through lyrics and melodies.

How do you drink your coffee?

Luke - Simple. Add half & half.

Kaylee - Luke and I are huge coffee fans. Couldn’t go a day without it. I love mine iced (even on a freezing day) w/ oat milk creamer.

What is your favorite breakfast?

Luke - Kaylee and I love to cook breakfast together! We try to at least a few times a week. We usually go for turkey bacon, eggs with cheese, fruit & a piece of toast.

Kaylee - Luke and I really love cooking breakfast together. We like going all out haha. Usually eggs, turkey bacon, & toast.

What is one food that most people seem to like, but you cannot stand to eat?

Luke - ANYTHING with almonds.

Kaylee - I truly hate sauerkraut. Like how could one ever like that?!

Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown?

Luke - My hometown is Olympia, WA. I’m a huge fan of pizza. I could eat pizza for every meal I think. I love Vic’s pizza.

Kaylee - I am from Northern California, a small town called Shingle Springs. My favorite place to eat would be Casa Ramos. Best Mexican hands down. Chicken enchiladas every time and they never disappoint!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Luke - I would have to say pizza. Pepperoni, cheese & jalapeños.

Kaylee - MEXICAN. Enchiladas with rice & beans. I don’t think I could ever get sick of that.

If you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why?

Luke - “Definitely Skrewball Whiskey! Kaylee and I are big fans of both peanut butter AND whiskey so what else would be a better option? Often at our live shows, fans love to buy us drinks. We will gladly accept a Screwball shot anytime!
