Tuesday Tunes Interview with Kelsey Lamb

Kelsey Lamb is gearing up to release her fantastic debut single, "Little By Little.”

The singer-songwriter has continued to make a name for herself with her rich voice, recently opening for Kenny Rogers and appearing in multiple films including Hallmark’s “Christmas in Homestead” and “Traces” where she played the character of Zia. To further her singing and acting career, Lamb recently released her first original song, “Warning Sign” which made its debut in the Lifetime Original Movie, “Bad Stepmother,” at the start of 2018.

We caught up with Kelsey Lamb as she gears up to head out on her first radio tour to chat about her music and her love of donuts!

Did you always want to be a musician or was there a specific moment that something happened that made you think "this is what I want to do with my life." If so, what was it?

I always knew that I wanted to be in the music industry and that I could sing. My big moment was when I was working at a summer camp that had a specialty in music for the campers and I wrote my first song with a boy who was really struggling. I saw first hand, for the first time the magic that music can have and the healing that songwriting had in that moment. I watched that little boy feel inspired and understood and that’s when I knew that I never wanted to stop making others feel less alone.

Since every song has a story, what’s the story behind your debut single, “Little by Little?”

“Little By Little” was written from 3 perspectives of being in a relationship that is either moving too fast or moving too slow and needing to find a middle ground between both. I was actually living the reality of this song as it was being written, and that's a huge part of why I was so passionate about finishing the song and releasing it as my first single. It was a title I knew I wanted on my EP and I was so excited when Erik DiNardo and Jesse Labelle jumped right in to help me bring it to life!

We are excited for the EP, any news on when it will be released?

No news just yet, the story is being told and the songs are coming to life, so keep an eye out!!

What is the biggest risk you've taken in your career so far?

For most of my career, I worked with a long time family friend and producer, Csaba Petocz, who a few years ago passed away. After that happened I had kind of stepped away from music and didn’t even want to think about it. But, an opportunity to be in a Kenny Rogers musical,“The Toy Shoppe,” popped up and even though I had zero experience in musical theater… I took it. I basically jumped in a bus with strangers who became family and performed on the road alongside Alan Thicke and then eventually moved to Nashville and continued to pursue a career in country music with the amazing support from my family and friends. I am thankful for knowing Csaba and for his wife who continued to inspire me after his passing. So honestly, my biggest risk so far has been continuing my career without him here and believing in my music as much as he did!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I have always wanted to grow up to be a singer!!

What kitchen appliance do you use every day?

Sadly.... my microwave

What's your favorite fast food chain?

Definitely Taco Bell

What's your favorite family recipe?

Every year on my birthday, my mom makes “chicken a la king” and it’s basically a chicken casserole on top of a puff pastry... it’s amazing

What was your favorite childhood food?

McDonald’s chicken nuggets

@kelseylambmusic Monday Confession: I am addicted to donuts. What's your favorite donut shop in your town?

Tell us about your love of donuts! Where are the best places to get delicious donuts?

My love for donuts is real. I grew up in Little Rock, and my favorite place there is called Shipley Donuts and I would go every morning before school and get 1 chocolate, 1 glazed, and a dozen donut holes...I’m embarrassed!

We know staying healthy is important to you, tell us about your daily routine. What fuels you?

I try very hard to live a healthy lifestyle, but still, indulge when I want! Every morning I have a bowl of oatmeal, followed by an apple or turkey bacon. I then usually have a salad for lunch or a turkey sandwich, and end my day with grilled chicken or (because I love breakfast food) scrambled eggs and turkey bacon! I usually get in at least a 30 minutes workout every day as well!

Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why?

Diet Coke... I am one of the many who are addicted and would love to never have to buy another case of Diet Coke again!
