The Cocktail for Saturday's Triple Crown Race -- the Belmont Jewel

Over 90,000 horse racing fans will descend upon the 150th Belmont Stakes this Saturday to see if frontrunner Justify can pull off the Triple Crown. But what many may not know is that the team at Centerplate is curating a food and drink program that’s up to the task too.

And the drink of choice for Saturday, even for the fans watching at home is the Belmont Jewel.

Less famous than its counterparts at the Kentucky Derby (the Mint Julep) and the Preakness (the Black Eyed Susan), the Jewel packs a powerful punch and is a tasty addition to raceday. Created by Centerplate’s onsite mixologist Drew Revella in 2011, it is THE drink for the Belmont this Saturday. Check out the recipe, compliments of the park’s concessionaire Centerplate.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounce of Woodford Reserve bourbon

  • 2 ounces of lemonade

  • 1 ounce of pomegranate juice

  • Orange zest

Shake vigorously with ice and serve in a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon twist.
