Rachel Price has begun 2018 in a big way and proves to be a talented singer and songwriter. She is starting to become one of Nashville’s hottest new stars, thanks to her new single, “Sunshine & Rainbows.” The Nebraska native talked with us this week about her new single and touring with The Wind & The Wave on their #HUMANBEINGSTOUR 2018 tour.
You just released released your new single “Sunshine & Rainbows” On March 2. Can you give us a little background on the song?
Yeah! We wrote the song with Wesley Nilsen in Texas last November. After getting off to a bit of a slow start in the write, Ben (my guitarist) suggested we write in a sarcastic tone. I threw out the idea of everything being all “sunshine and rainbows” when you’re just having the worst day. The first verse is mostly true, and the second verse is completely made up.
How has it been opening for The Wind & The Wave on their #HUMANBEINGSTOUR?
It’s been incredible. My favorite part of being a musician is meeting people and hearing how my music (or any music) affects them, and this tour has put me right in the midst of all of that. Also, everyone in this camp is incredibly talented and gets along really well.
You travelled from NY and are going all the way to FL on the tour, have there been any fun tour stops along the way?
We started in Austin, Texas at the end of January and have made our way pretty much around the entire country. Every stop along the way has been a lot of fun. We did end up stopping in my home state of Nebraska for a couple days, so I got to see my friends and family which is always cool.
A lot of the cities you are playing in have a huge culinary scene like Atlanta, New Orleans, and Nashville. How do find great places to eat when out on tour?
I rely heavily on Yelp and recommendations from locals.
What are some of your “must haves” for the road?
Dry shampoo and caffeine.
You first song, “Little Nebraska Town,” gained over a million views online. Did you ever think it would be as successful as it became?
Definitely not. I had no idea what to expect when I released that first EP. It still blows my mind that that many people have heard me sing.
What is one thing you can tell us that most people don’t know about you and might surprise us?
I studied animal biology at South Dakota State University for two years with the intent of being a vet before changing my mind and pursuing music.
For fun, can you give an example of a “typical day” of eating for you, whether you are going out with friends or cooking at home.
I usually wait until noon or 1 PM to eat, and if I’m home it’s usually some sort of breakfast food (turkey bacon, eggs, avocado toast). For dinner I cook chicken or fish with a couple sides. I’ve been really into mashed cauliflower and zucchini noodles lately.
Top three cities for food?
Nashville, Austin, LA.
Do you like to cook and are there any ingredients you are really enjoying cooking with at the moment?
I do like to cook! I’m not great at it, but I’m getting better. I always cook with garlic and onions. My apartment smells great.
If you could be on a reality cooking show, what would it be?
Definitely “Chopped.” It’s been a favorite show of mine for a while.
Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why?
Angie’s popcorn. The kettle corn is a legitimate source of joy in my life. I’ve gone through a shameful amount Costco-sized bags of it.

A Little More About Rachel Price
A proud Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, Price first gained attention when she wrote a song about her home state a few years ago called “Little Nebraska Town.” The song was used in a video as part of renowned photographer Bill Frakes’ The Nebraska Project and generated over a million views online while celebrating the people, places and stories that are the essence of the state.
2017 was quite a year for Price, she toured and launched a campaign to help Victims of Hurricane Harvey, selling HOME T-Shirts (Home, being the name of her recently released EP) and donated proceeds to REBUILDTX.ORG to benefit victims in cities along the Gulf Coast. She also began another unique U.S. tour, visiting and donating partial proceeds from her shows to Animal Shelters in all tour markets.
HOME, was recorded in Nashville, where Price teamed with Australian-born, Music City-based producer, musician and composer Michael Flanders for the six-song EP (on Indie Extreme/RP Music.) The EP is a tribute to Rachel’s heartland roots and a glimpse into a promising future.
